Obituary for ENRICO CARRETTA

Enrico passed peacefully on February 28 2023 five days short of his 89 th birthday. He will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Olga (nee Battiston) and children Sylvia (Lou), Brenda (Paolo) and Eddie, his grandchildren Sebastian (Hope), Katarina (Ryan), Simon (Caroline), Claudia (Carson) and Sabrina and his great grandchildren Adrian, Marissa, Cylis and Gemma.

Enrico arrived in Canada in 1953 at the age of 19 at Halifax, Nova Scotia’s Pier 21. After a short period in Montreal, he made his way to Toronto where he began his new life. It was a hard start in Toronto, but his work ethic and determination lead to a successful career in construction and full family life. Working 7 days a week was not unusual for Enrico and in fact was typical into his senior years. He was a quiet man who never made a fuss about helping others. There was never a question about his response when asking for help. From lending his truck, tools or equipment and wanting nothing in return. He was known to just quietly do his thing and slip away without fanfare. He was instrumental in much of early Mississauga’s growth and construction. After his stroke and losing his ability to speak clearly, he struggled to communicate, but never lost his ability to sing and enjoyed a good sing along. Music brought him joy. We remain grateful to the wonderful staff at Villa Leonardo Gambin where he lived his final years. The attention and care he received gave him a quality of life that give the family great comfort.

He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and dear friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory to Villa Leonard Gambin  www.VillaGambin.com or by calling directly at 905-856-7619.
