Obituary for DOROTHY SMITHERAM

After a lifetime of living in Mimico, Dorothy Smitheram passed away on March 18th at the age of 96 and a half.

Dorothy was predeceased by the love of her life, Eric (2019) after 69 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by sisters Eleanor and Barbara and brothers Jack and her twin, Ken.

Dorothy was a member of the Lorraine Rebekah Lodge, the female side of the I.O.O.F “but don’t you call me girly, buster!” Dorothy was a long time volunteer with the Disabled Swimmers at Gus Ryder Pool in New Toronto. She spent 25 years as a Pink Lady at Queensway Hospital and she was very active with the choir and her church.

Dorothy’s most important job was keeping Reggie in a steady supply of freshly baked pies, and she did it to perfection (except for the last pie she made, where she forgot to add the sugar!) Two at a time had to be made - one for Eric and one for the rest of the crew. The smartest kids in the neighbourhood knew to stop by 23 Vanevery after school because that’s when the last batch of cookies was coming out of the oven.

Dorothy was the proud mother of Marlene, Dale, Mark (Ruth), and Glenn (Nancy). Grandmother to Jessica (the FGD) Matthew - the only one to get away with calling her Dottie (Romina) Ryan and Anthony (aka Angelo). She adored great granddaughter Michela.

C Ya Dottie!

A Celebration of her Life will take place at G. H. Hogle Funeral home, 63 Mimico Ave, Etobicoke on Wednesday March 30, 2022 from 6-9pm.
