Obituary for Marion Franklin
Marion Ruth Franklin March 28, 1928 – July 28, 2020
Peacefully at Walden Circle on Tuesday July 28 2020, in her 93rd year, Marion
entered the Lord's house. Loving wife of the late Leslie Franklin and sister to the
late Eileen Knuff.
Caring mother of Mike (Patti), Jane (George), Carolyn, Jill, Ted, and Cath
(daughter-in-law). She will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 3
great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Sister-in-law to Ken
Knuff, aunt to Laura and Brian and their family. Proud member of Wesley Mimico
United Church and volunteer with the Cancer Society and Children’s Aid Society.
Marion lived a life full of love for faith and family. The United Church was always
at the forefront for her (“Don’t touch that – it’s for the church!). In it she found a
sense of community and strength. When she married Les in 1965 and moved to
Mimico, Wesley United became her home. The congregation embraced her and
all she had to offer to the UCW, Couples’ Club, Church Council, World Day of
Prayer, Rummage Sale, Annual Christmas Bazaar… She was the most sensible
person - very practical and humble. When buying things, the thought of "what
would Marion do" would come to our minds. She had an excellent sense of
humour, and liked to see the best outcomes in all situations. Marion was the
youngest old person to her extended family and friends.
One of her favourite destinations was the cottage in Victoria Harbour. For many
years she would set up residence there in June right through to September. High
tea watching the bay was a daily ritual. She never got tired of the view. She
expanded her horizons by traveling to distant shores - the UK, Europe, Latin
America and the Caribbean with Carolyn, many states in the US with Les, and
from one coast to another in Canada.
She was raised with a sense of duty to church and family, and it was how she lived
each day. Each one of us, be it family or friends, has benefited from her selfless
love and devotion. May we carry that forward in our own lives!
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19 the visitation, and service will be for
immediate family only. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As
expressions of sympathy, donations to Wesley United Church or the charity of
your choice would be appreciated.
