Obituary for George Isaac

George passed away in his 99th year, where he wanted to be, living independently in his home of 62 years. He was remarkably healthy for his age and had only stopped driving a couple of months ago. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Craig (1983), mother of his children Douglas and Janet (Larry Charbonneau). George married for the second time in 1990 to Shirley Dean, a former neighbour, but she predeceased him in 1995.

George’s family was the most important thing to him. He was very proud of his children Douglas and Janet and his four grandchildren Kyle and Brooke Charbonneau, Neil and Phil Isaac. He loved to tell others of the academic and career achievements of his grandchildren. His extended family was also very important to him. George is survived by his sisters Adele Slavik and Grace Czegledi and many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed our regular large family get togethers and spending time at the cottage on Isabella Island in Georgian Bay where 4 of his sisters also had cottages.

George was a Chartered Accountant by profession and spent the majority of his career in business and government positions. Before he retired he held a senior position with the Ontario Rent Review program.
George was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan to parents Gyula and Ida Izsak, whose families had emigrated from Hungary in the late 1890’s. During the depression, Gyula and Ida moved their family of eight children to Toronto seeking improved job prospects and better education. He was predeceased by his brothers Elmer and Wally Isaac, and sisters Elvera Takach, Marienne Norris, and Matti Phalen.

George was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. After moving to Etobicoke he was a founding member of Park Lawn Presbyterian Church and when that closed, he moved to Mimico Presbyterian where he continued to play an active role for many years. We are appreciative for the support given to him by Pastor Rob Howard and the congregation of Mimico Presbyterian - you were a second family to him.

Visitation will be held at the Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke on Thursday October 11th from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at Mimico Presbyterian Church, 119 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke on Friday, October 12th at 11:00 am.

Please, no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, Canadian Cancer Society or any charity of your choosing.
