Obituary for
Dorothy Wheeler
The family is sad to announce the passing of Dorothy Wheeler (nee Sandford). She is lovingly remembered by her husband Kenneth, four children, Will, Margot, Donna and John, grandchildren, Renee, Kara, Cameron, Liam, Myles and Malcolm and siblings Theo, Adrienne and Diana.
The youngest of six children, Dorothy was raised in the Lakeshore and remained there for her entire life, but traveled extensively, spending extended periods in Italy and the United Kingdom. As a caring member of the community, she was a founding member of the Lakeshore Area Multi-Services Project (LAMP) and the Welcome Baby Support project. She was also an active member of Christ Church/St. James Anglican Church and Woman Matter. She loved books and literature, dinner parties and swimming at Gus Ryder pool. One of Dorothy’s proudest achievements was her life partnership with her husband Kenneth Wheeler, sharing not only the same birth date but over 60 years of wedded bliss.
Special thanks to her sister, Diana Watson, Dr. Jessica Roy, and her Palliative Care team, Father Murray Henderson, Martha Alphonse, Louise Daly and the staff of Dorothy Ley Hospice. Donations can be directed to Christ Church St James Food Bank, or Dorothy Ley Hospice.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday May 25th from 2-4 and 6-8p.m at G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Christ Church- St. James, 194 Park Lawn Rd. on Thursday May 26th at 2 pm with a reception to follow at the church.
